Pharmacist Role

The man (or woman) behind the counter.A pharmacist does a lot more than just dispense drugs. Here's what else your pharmacist can do for you. You've seen the pharmacist's smiling face behind the counter when you go get a prescription filled. You know he or she is responsible for making sure you get the correct dosage and amount of a drug as per your doctor's instructions. But did you know your pharmacist can do a whole lot more? A pharmacist, for starters, is a qualified health care professional. Your pharmacist has a license to practice and must have completed an advanced university degree to do so. Each pharmacist is also required to follow a professional code of practice. Much like a doctor, when you speak to a pharmacist, you're talking to a very well-educated health professional. They also do a lot more than just fill prescriptions. Your pharmacist can also give you advice on how to take your medication, information about side effects, help choosing over-the-counter medications, sunscreens and vitamins, and even information on products like pregnancy tests, ovulation predictors, birth control, smoking cessation aids and glucose tests.
A good pharmacist, as a trained health professional, can also give advice on healthy living, alternative treatments and a wide range of health conditions. Suffering from menopausal symptoms? Ask your pharmacist if there's anything you can do! Got a skin rash? Check it out with your pharmacist! It's his or her job to help take care of your health. Finally, the pharmacist is also responsible for keeping track of your health and medication history. He makes sure any medications you're taking don't interact, as well as ensuring you're taking the right dose of everything. If your doctor has accidentally prescribed an incorrect dosage, your pharmacist will notice and make sure you get the correct dose. There's so much your pharmacist can do for you beyond just filling a prescription. How do you find the right one for you? Try searching on Health Local
to find a pharmacy in your area. The pharmacy's listing will have information (including website links) to help you determine if that pharmacy meets your requirements.
